Biography

Lesley Buchan is a classically trained soprano and music graduate based in Edinburgh. She spent many years as a choral scholar in the city, gaining extensive ensemble and liturgical singing experience, while developing a versatile career as both a solo performer and vocal tutor.

Lesley has performed widely across Scotland with ensembles including Edinburgh Festival Chorus, St Andrew Camerata, Jubilo, Sospiro Baroque and Coro. Her repertoire spans Baroque to contemporary music, with a particular focus on oratorio, German Lied and 20th-century song. Performance highlights include Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, and operatic roles such as Belinda (Dido & Aeneas), Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana) and Cressida (La Belle Hélène). Recent work has included collaborations with the string quartet Tesseris and performances of works by Vaughan Williams, Clara Schumann, Roger Quilter and Schumann’s song cycle Myrthen.

Lesley has undertaken further study at the Dartington International Summer School and Oxenfoord International Summer School, working with Linda Hirst, Peter Knapp, and Malcolm Martineau and has participated in masterclasses with pianist and broadcaster Iain Burnside.

Following sixteen years in primary education, Lesley now focuses fully on performance and private vocal tuition, continuing her studies with Scottish soprano Irene Drummond. She is passionate about collaboration across musical styles and committed to supporting singers in developing healthy technique, confidence and their own individual artistic voice.
